Scale

A company I know of is structured like this

  • Ruby on Rails for the API
  • a mix of SPA react and (Rails) server rendered pages on the front end
  • React native mobile app
  • hosted on heroku

Team Size is less than 100 people who maintain this.

This company does over 1 billion in revenue YOY with a healthy profit margin.

Not only is this a lesson in scaling a business, and how lean you can be when you find product market fit, but it’s also a lesson for anyone who has ever said rails doesn’t scale.

You don’t need to handle FAANG levels of traffic to create real value through software and you can do it so efficiently. Ruby on rails lets you solve business problems at a pace no other framework can come close to.

This is the kind of business I am driving towards.
